IAC Acoustics (MURL – Melbourne, Victoria, Australia)
IAC Acoustics required design verification of circular and rectangular silencer designs for the Melbourne Underground Rail Loop (MURL). Thermal-structural assessment of the stainless steel silencers and casings was required to verify structural integrity of the silencer and casing components and welded and bolted and riveted connections considering elevated temperature operation.
What we did:
- Performed thermal-structural FEA of the circular and rectangular silencer designs considering applied permanent, internal/external pressure and thermal loads with elevated temperature material properties.
- Determined design compliance of the circular and rectangular silencer designs in accordance with standard AS 4100 considering strength and fatigue loads.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified overall structural integrity of the circular and rectangular silencers and confirmed design compliance with component strength and welded joint fatigue requirements, considering a 400°C peak operating temperature.
