WHRU Header Fatigue Assessment

Clyde Bergemann Australia required fatigue assessment of a waste heat recovery unit (WHRU) header for MODEC. Avesta Consulting performed a thermal-structural analysis and fatigue life assessment of the WHRU inlet and outlet headers to verify strength and fatigue life of the header shells, encirclement reinforcement connections and element tubes in accordance with standard ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 2 considering cyclic thermal loading data.

What we did:

  • Performed thermal-structural FEA of WHRU heat exchanger incorporating inlet and outlet header shells, encirclement reinforcement connections, element tubes and adjacent WHRU casing to verify strength requirements.
  • Determined peak stress range values and calculated inlet/outlet header component fatigue life in accordance with standard ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 2.

Outcome:

Avesta Consulting completed strength and fatigue assessment of the WHRU header and verified design compliance of the components with minimum design life requirements.
