IAC Acoustics (Sydney Metro – Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
IAC Acoustics required design and structural analysis of a horizontal attenuator configuration for the Sydney Metro project (Central Station, Sydney). Structural assessment of the horizontal attenuator casing assembly and splitter designs were required to be performed in accordance with standard AS 4100 to verify integrity of the structural members and capacity of riveted, bolted and pinned connections, with loading conditions to be applied in accordance with standards AS/NZS 1170.0 and AS 1170.4 considering permanent, imposed (air flow induced drag), internal/external pressure, thermal, seismic and lifting loads.
What we did:
- Performed strength assessment (structural FEA) and design verification of the horizontal attenuator casing assembly and splitter design applying permanent, imposed (air flow induced drag), internal/external pressure, thermal, seismic and lifting loads.
- Determined deflections/stresses in structural members, capacities of riveted/bolted connection and anchor bolts and strength/buckling capacity of lateral restraints and wall brackets.
- Determined appropriate design modifications and verified design compliance with standard AS 4100.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified structural integrity of horizontal attenuator configurations and confirmed design compliance with the engineering principles and intent of standard AS 4100 and project specific requirements.
