IAC Acoustics (Santos - Gladstone, Queensland, Australia)
IAC Acoustics required structural assessment of two GEA-DEA generator enclosure designs for a mine site for Santos (Gladstone, Queensland). Structural assessment of the GEA-DEA generator canopies and base frames, and calculation of foundation loads, was performed in accordance with standards AS 4100, AS 1657 and AS 4991 to confirm/optimise member sizing/spacing and verify lifting point requirements considering permanent, imposed, wind, seismic and lifting loads as per standards AS/NZS 1170.0, AS/NZS 1170.2 and AS 1170.4 and project design parameters.
What we did:
- Preliminary structural assessment of GEA-DEA generator enclosures under applied permanent, imposed, wind and seismic loads (considering a simplified rigid link representation with enclosure equipment COG, enclosure centre of pressure and foundation support locations).
- Detailed structural assessment/design modification of GEA-DEA generator enclosures under applied permanent, imposed, wind, seismic and lifting loads to confirm/optimise member sizing/spacing.
- Determination of deflections/stresses in generator canopy and base frame members and comparison with AS 4100 standard maximum deflection/capacity criteria.
- Calculation of foundation loads (for foundation design).
- Structural design/assessment of GEA-DEA generator enclosure lifting points, determination of lifting point eye/welded connection capacities and confirmation of compliance with AS 4100 and AS 4991 standards requirements.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting confirmed compliance of the GEA-DEA generator enclosure base frame and canopy designs with standard AS 4100 considering permanent, imposed, wind, seismic and 4-point lifting loads derived from standards AS/NZS 1170.0, AS/NZS 1170.2, AS 1170.4 and AS 4991.
