IAC Acoustics (WestConnex M4-M5 Link – Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
IAC Acoustics required fluid flow analysis of a horizontal splitter attenuator for the M4-M5 Link tunnel project. Fluid flow analysis was performed to characterise the total pressure loss of the 3 m length parallel splitter configuration considering roof/floor, walls and offset distance from upstream concrete columns.
What we did:
- Performed preliminary flow calculations (i.e. flow characterisation) of splitter attenuator to determine equivalent pressure loss-flow rate relationship across splitter only configuration (based on physical test data).
- Performed steady state fluid flow CFD analysis of splitter attenuator considering 3 m length parallel splitter configuration (represented as equivalent porous domain with directional pressure loss-flow rate relationship), upstream concrete columns, roof/floor and walls (with sufficient upstream/downstream volume to accurately represent attenuator flow characteristics).
- Determined attenuator total pressure loss and compared with project specific maximum pressure loss requirements.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified the total pressure loss for the horizontal splitter attenuator and confirmed design compliance with project specific maximum pressure loss requirements.
