IAC Acoustics (WestConnex M4-M5 Link – Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia)
IAC Acoustics required design and structural analysis of a horizontal attenuator configuration for the WestConnex M4-M5 Link Parramatta Tunnel project. Structural assessment of the attenuator casing assembly and splitter designs were required to be performed in accordance with standard AS 4100 to verify integrity of the structural members and capacity of welded joints and riveted/bolted connections, with loading conditions to be applied in accordance with standards AS/NZS 1170.0 and AS 1170.4 considering permanent, imposed (maximum air flow), thermal, seismic and lifting loads.
What we did:
- Performed strength assessment (structural FEA) and design verification of the attenuator casing assembly and splitter designs applying permanent, imposed (air flow induced drag), thermal, seismic and lifting loads.
- Determined deflections/stresses in structural members, welded joint, riveted/bolted and anchor bolt connection capacities and strength/buckling capacity of lateral restraints/wall brackets.
- Implemented appropriate design modifications to achieve design compliance with standard AS 4100.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified structural integrity of the horizontal attenuator configurations and confirmed deign compliance with the engineering principles and intent of standard AS 4100.
