BlueScope Steel (Port Kembla, New South Wales, Australia)
BlueScope Steel required structural assessment and design verification of an ammonia sulphate storage tank (#3 Ammonia Circ Tank) considering the tank shell, frangible roof, baffles/stiffeners and nozzles. Assessment was required to verify structural integrity of the ammonia tank in in accordance with standards API 650, API 2000 and AISC 360-10 applying dead, live (platform), hydrostatic/vapour pressure, thermal, wind and seismic loads.
What we did:
- Performed strength assessment (structural FEA) of ammonia tank to determine structural integrity and compliance of proposed design modifications to standards API 650 and AISC 360-10.
- Performed a review of the existing ammonia tank design and provided recommendations for modifications and amendments to achieve design compliance with standards API 650 and API 2000:
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified structural integrity of the ammonia tank in accordance with standards API 650, API 2000 and AISC 360-10 considering proposed design modifications.
