IAC Acoustics (Davenport Substation – Port Augusta, South Australia, Australia)
IAC Acoustics required structural assessment of an acoustic enclosure for a synchronous condenser (Davenport Substation). Structural assessment of the acoustic enclosure structure and platform was required in accordance with standards AS 4100 and AS 1657 to confirm member sizing/spacing requirements and connection details considering permanent, imposed, wind and seismic loads.
What we did:
- Performed global structural FEA of acoustic enclosure structure and platform in accordance with standards AS 4100 and AS 1657 considering applied permanent, imposed, wind and seismic loads to confirm/optimise member sizing/spacing.
- Performed linear buckling FEA to confirm acoustic enclosure structure buckling capacity.
- Developed localised FE sub-models to confirm bolted connection details and base support anchor bolt requirements.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified structural integrity of the acoustic enclosure/platform design and confirmed appropriate member sizing/spacing, bolted connection details and base support anchor bolt requirements.
