Clyde Bergemann Australia (MODEC – Brazil)
Clyde Bergemann Australia required structural assessment of GTG and GTC waste heat recovery units (WHRU’s) for MODEC. Avesta Consulting performed thermal-structural analysis of the GTG/GTC WHRU ducting/casing and tube bundle to verify compliance with standards AISC 360 and API RP 2A-WSD considering dead, thermal, internal pressure, wind, motion and lifting loads.
What we did:
- Performed thermal-structural FEA of GTG/GTC WHRU ducting/casing, weather hood and main support beams to verify structural integrity and design compliance in accordance with standards AISC 360 and API RP 2A-WSD.
- Performed linear buckling FEA of GTG/GTC WHRU ducting/casing to confirm adequate buckling capacity.
- Performed natural frequency FEA of GTG/GTC WHRU ducting/casing to determine vibrational modes for subsequent vortex shedding frequency and ovalling analysis as per standard AISC STS-1.
- Performed structural FEA of tube bundle frame support, tube sheet, temporary braces, lifting points and spreader frame and confirmed design compliance with standard AISC 360.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting completed strength assessment of the GTG/GTC WHRU ducting/casing and tube bundle and confirmed design compliance with standards AISC 360 and API RP 2A-WSD.
