Heat Exchanger Stress Analysis

Engineering assessment of heat exchanger shell and tube components verifying peak stresses and design compliance with ASME BPVC Section VIII

Galiakotwala Engineering (Mumbai, India)

Galiakotwala Engineering required stress analysis and design verification of a shell-tube heat exchanger. Stress analysis of the shell and tube heat exchanger was performed to confirm peak stresses during equipment startup, operation and shutdown considering transient heat transfer during start-up and shutdown with acid and steam, and steady state heat transfer for acid only operation maintaining a constant inlet temperature.

What we did:

Outcome:

Avesta Consulting confirmed peak equivalent stresses less than temperature dependant stress limits during start-up, operation and shutdown and verified design compliance with the engineering principles of standard AMSE BPVC Section VIII Division 2.
