Guidera O’Connor (Perseverance Dam – Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia)
Guidera O’Connor required flow analysis for a low lift suction pump for a raw water pump station application (Perseverance Dam). Fluid flow assessment was required to characterise water flow distribution from pipe suction spool arrangements into the pump impellers and to aid in design of flow straightening/anti-swirl devices to achieve pump manufacturer performance specifications.
What we did:
- Performed flow characterisation (steady state fluid flow CFD analysis) of the pump suction spool arrangements and determined pump impeller incident water flow distribution (considering maximum flow rates).
- Designed pump suction spool flow straightening/anti-swirl devices that achieved water flow axial/radial velocity differences within pump manufacturer performance specifications and minimised head losses.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting successfully characterised the performance characteristics of the pump suction spools and designed appropriate flow straightening/anti-swirl devices that maintained water flow axial/radial velocity differences within pump manufacturer performance specifications.
