IAC Acoustics (WestConnex M4-M5 Link – Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
IAC Acoustics required structural assessment and design verification of a horizontal attenuator support frame for the WestConnex M4-M5 Link project. Design and structural assessment of the SAT26001 and SAT26002 horizontal attenuator support frames was required in accordance with standard AS 4100 Steel Structures to verify structural integrity of the members and connection details considering permanent, imposed (maximum air flow), thermal and seismic loads
What we did:
- Performed global structural FEA of horizontal attenuator support frame in accordance with standard AS 4100 considering applied permanent, imposed (maximum air flow), thermal and seismic loads to confirm/optimise member sizing/spacing.
- Performed linear buckling FEA to confirm acoustic enclosure structure buckling capacity.
- Developed localised FE sub-models to confirm welded joint/bolted connection details and base support anchor bolt requirements.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified structural integrity of the horizontal attenuator support frame design and confirmed appropriate member sizing/spacing, welded joint/bolted connection details and base support anchor bolt requirements.
