Inglis Engineering (BlueScope Steel – Port Kembla, New South Wales, Australia)
Inglis Engineering required fatigue assessment of an ore prep spike roll crusher shaft for BlueScope Steel. Structural analysis and fatigue life assessment of the ore prep spike roll crusher shaft was required in accordance with relevant standards to determine remaining life considering proposed design modifications and induced cyclic loads.
What we did:
- Performed linear structural FEA of modified ore prep spike roll crusher shaft designs (based on 670 mm and 665 mm diameter shafts) in accordance with standard AS 1210 considering cyclic fatigue loads to verify strength requirements.
- Determined peak cyclic stress range, calculated fatigue life in accordance with standard AS 1210 and compared with design life requirements.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting confirmed that the modified ore prep spike roll crusher shafts would have sufficient remaining fatigue life to satisfy the additional 30 month service requirement specified by BlueScope.
