BlueScope Steel (Port Kembla, New South Wales, Australia)
BlueScope Steel required structural assessment and design verification of a rail replacement jacking device for the Sinter Plant Cooler. Assessment of the jacking device was required to verify structural integrity of the jacking frame, sole plate and back stay in accordance with standard AS 4100 applying jacking loads as per standard AS/NZS 1170.0 (considering vertical/horizontal forces).
What we did:
- Performed strength analysis (structural FEA) of jacking device considering jacking frame, jacking sole plate and back stay components and applied vertical/horizontal forces.
- Performed linear buckling FEA to confirm jacking frame buckling capacity.
- Verified peak component/weld stresses and confirmed structural integrity in accordance with standard AS 4100 requirements.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting confirmed global compliance of the jacking device to standard AS 4100 and verified minimum weld capacity requirements for the balancing arm-rail connection.
