IAC Acoustics (Sydney Metro – Sydney, New South Wales, Australia)
IAC Acoustics required fluid flow analysis of an inlet transition duct and attenuator configuration for the Sydney Metro tunnel project. Fluid flow analysis was required to characterise the air velocity profile between the inlet transition duct and attenuator gaps considering a round to rectangular transition duct between the fan outlet and attenuator configuration.
What we did:
- Performed fluid flow CFD analysis of the inlet transition duct and attenuator configuration considering maximum air flow conditions (equivalent to 40 m/s average air flow velocity).
- Determined air flow characteristics from review of total pressure loss, streamlines, velocity vectors and velocity contours.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified the air flow characteristics and confirmed that the combined inlet transition duct and attenuator configuration would achieve the required air flow uniformity and pressure loss requirements.
