IAC Acoustics (Newcrest Mining – Lihir Island, Papua New Guinea)
IAC Acoustics required structural assessment and design verification of a vent silencer for the Newcrest Lihir mine site (Lihir Island). Assessment was required to verify structural integrity of the vent silencer shell/stiffener and support components in accordance with standard AS 4100 considering permanent, imposed, wind, seismic and lifting loads.
What we did:
- Performed structural FEA of the vent silencer in accordance with standard AS 4100 applying permanent, imposed (internal pressure), wind, seismic and lifting loads and determined modified lifting point configuration.
- Performed linear bucking FEA to confirm adequate buckling capacity.
- Confirmed bolted connection capacities for the proposed support footing arrangement.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified structural integrity of the vent silencer in accordance with standard AS 4100 and confirmed a modified lifting point design suitable for vertical and horizontal lifting.
