Clyde Bergemann Australia (YTSM JV – Guyana)
Clyde Bergemann Australia required blast load analysis of a GTG waste heat recovery unit (WHRU) for YTSM JV (FPSO Yellowtail) to verify structural integrity/stability of the WHRU and bolted connections subjected to transient blast load conditions (in combination with dead, thermal and internal pressure loads), with damage considered acceptable if the WHRU remained in-situ (i.e. peak component/bolt stresses less than ultimate strength) and avoided buckling collapse.
What we did:
- Performed nonlinear transient dynamic (i.e. elastic-plastic material, large deflection) FEA of GTG WHRU ducting/casing and exhaust stack (including main support beams and tube bundle/silencer mass distribution) applying a transient blast pressure load (in combination with dead, thermal and internal pressure loads).
- Determined peak component/bolt stresses and plastic strains and verified structural integrity/stability considering strength and buckling behaviour.
Outcome:
Avesta Consulting verified the WHRU ducting/casing and exhaust stack had sufficient strength and stability to resist transient blast pressure loading conditions.
