YTSM JV WHRU Blast Load Analysis

Nonlinear transient FEA of a GTG WHRU showing stress distribution and plastic deformation of ducting, casing, and exhaust stack under blast load conditions in oil & gas applications.

Clyde Bergemann Australia (YTSM JV – Guyana)

Clyde Bergemann Australia required blast load analysis of a GTG waste heat recovery unit (WHRU) for YTSM JV (FPSO Yellowtail) to verify structural integrity/stability of the WHRU and bolted connections subjected to transient blast load conditions (in combination with dead, thermal and internal pressure loads), with damage considered acceptable if the WHRU remained in-situ (i.e. peak component/bolt stresses less than ultimate strength) and avoided buckling collapse.

What we did:

Outcome:

Avesta Consulting verified the WHRU ducting/casing and exhaust stack had sufficient strength and stability to resist transient blast pressure loading conditions.
